This is the story of an Indiana carpenter of 48 yrs. moving to Florida for the winter months. After choosing the area we liked best, we bought a park model in a retirement RV park. He planned to build a small storage shed for his wood working tools, but as local permits read, you must have a licensed, sealed drawing before they will give you a permit. Checking into a drawing of a 10 X 10 simple shed, the cost would be $800. plus another $75. for the permit. The price was already adding up to what he planned to spend for total construction supplies with him doing the building. After much consideration, a local shed company seemed the best way to go. They are dealers for steel buildings, headquartered out of state, but with local builders. The shed was ordered 11/14/07
On 12/09/07, 5 men brought out the material for the shed and built it on site. The problem there was only 1 could speak English, and his words were very limited. As the worked progressed, the Indiana carpenter questioned much of their construction, but only received a NO SIR in return. It was a disaster!
We took pictures and went to the local dealer---he agreed it was very poor workmanship. The pictures were sent to the out of state headquarters---they agreed it was very poor workmanship. All agree it should be redone, but it seems no one takes care of it. Many phone calls have been made to both the local and out of state companies, very few returned. Promises of putting us on the schedule as soon as possible have been made again and again. This morning this promise was made again, but they don't set any date for it to be done. No one has ever come out to look at it as the rains come and the leaks in the roof intensify. Other building problems include:
Ribs on siding do not line up on corners
Roof eave trim is short and leaves a gap on each end
Corner trim pieces were cut jagged and short
Roof trim was jagged and out of square
Gable trim pieces ripple
Screws were put in too tight to tear rubber washers
These problems sit in our back yard for verification and can E mail pictures if needed. Hope something can be done!
