On june 5, 2007 I received a letter in the mail from winston financial management. The address was 230 hamden st. Syracuse, ny 13208. Enclosed with the letter was a cashiers check from citizens bank for $2,990.00. The check was to assist me in paying for the service charge and tax fees which amounted to $2,840.00. The remaining $150.00 Was the fees for moneygram. I was to contact patricia morgan at 1-778-552-3922 before june 11,2007 or the prize would be forfeited. The prize was a all inclusive round trip cruise to the carribbean and $50,000 in cash. You had 12 months to use the trip and it was fully extendable. I spoke to patricia and her supervisor several times asking a lot of questions. I went online and could not find anything against them. I went to my bank and told them about the contest. She deposited the check and said it cleared and could be withdrawn at midnight. I felt suspicious when I did not receive my package so I closed my account and reopened another one explaining what happened. On june 11,2007 the cashiers check came back unpaid so my bank took the 2,990.00 Out of my old account reopening it. I called and complained and was told it was a fraudulent check and I was responsible for it. They then took 356.00 Out of my new account 7/12/07 with out telling me saying it was legal, they could do that if they wanted to and nothing could be done. Since then I have found reports on the internet against the company and my bank I was scammed and don't feel I should be responsible for it. I have all the paperwork and receipts and a police report concerning the scam and my bank. The bank also said they don't have to tell the consumers that a check can and maybe fraudulent. I don't understand how a cashiers check which is same as cash can be returned unpaid 6 days after it is cashed and has cleared.
I called the phone number for the scam and they are still operating with the same people but different company name. Please help!!!
