Hi. My name is John Mikell, jobless, surviving on unemployment, my "life line" currently. Job hunting is a daily routine, it's a grinding process, and I do it well. You are angry with your situation, making progress, so you are at piece, holding on with everything you've got, "getting by" as they would say.
EDD expresses, if you are receiving unemployment you should undoubtedly return to school/training to enhance your skills or to begin a new career with a four year degree. You do your research, find the school of interest, you check the "little box" on the Unemployed Insurance Claim form informing EDD that you have enrolled in school.
The "claim form" is a very, very important item. You must pay close attention to this form, fill it out correctly, and sign it. Ok.....you fill out, signed it, and mailed it on the specified "mailing date" with that "little box" checked. Once you have mailed in your claim form it takes roughly five to eight days to receive your check, in your mind you will possess "this check" within a few days to relieve the stress, purchase food, pay your phone and internet bill, put gas in your car, pay your auto insurance, maintain your wife's medical insurance, and not having medical insurance go to K-Mart to see what of the eight medications you need, you could afford.
What EDD "DOES NOT" inform you of is that upon receiving notification of enrollment, checking that "little box" stating you are enrolled in school", The Employment Development Department will "Instantly Stop" your UI benefits, meaning, "the check you were waiting for", you will not receive, instead, you will receive a letter fromm EDD scheduling you for a phone interview two weeks from the day you received the letter. The interview is to verify your enrollment. Four weeks have passed, you have no money, or anything for that matter. Staying focused is becoming difficult. I would not have informed EDD of my enrollment if I knew my benefits would be curtailed. I would like to get this information out there of this hidden process to anyone receiving unemployment questioning weather or not to enroll in school. This process will devastate anyone in my position. It's not right, it's not fair. I keep asking myself "Why Would They" stop your benefits needed for survival to verify if a person is enrolled in school.
