Alabama Security Regulatory Board Complaint

When will the State of Alabama require licensing fees for restaurant workers?

- State of Alabama
The State of Alabama has passed a law that requires armed an unarmed private security officers to be licensed. Although I applaud the decision of the Alabama Security Regulatory Board to license armed security officers, I am shocked there are also licensing fees for security officers that are not authorized to carry weapons. Security firms are being allowed by the ASRB to pass on the fees and license costs to their employees. The fees associated with the license are an unfair burden placed on the thousands of security workers in this state that are often near the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. In addition, smaller security firms that are unable to pay for the licensing costs for their employees are now placed at a disadvantage over larger security firms that are able to absorb the costs. There is a conflict of interest because several board members of the Alabama Security Regulatory Board have ties to large security firms.

When will the State of Alabama require licensing fees for restaurant workers? Why should we stop with only licensing unarmed security officers? We are more likely to be harmed by a disgruntled restaurant worker than an unarmed security guard. When was the last time you heard of a security guard without a weapon killing a group of people?

It is time to put an end to this extra tax burden and replace the board members of the Alabama Security Regulatory Board with people who have common sense.

Thank you,
