Progressive Movers Inc Complaint

We simply got robbed !!! - Moving company

- Patterson Ave, NJ

I am very sorry to report that I have become another victim of this unethical company. I was moving from a one bedroom to a two bedroom apartment in my own complex( Approximately 1 minute drive). My husband got a few quotes from different moving companies online and apparently Progressive Movers Inc. (PMI) offered the best price; 3 men for $70 an hour. So, we decided to choose them. Two days before the move, they sent someone to our apartment to look at our furniture and give us an estimate. He estimated that the work would be done in 3 hours and gave me a quote for the total of $210. My husband and I spent the whole week wrapping our furniture as every piece of my furniture is brand new and I did not want any damage to my belongings. The only pieces that were not wrapped were my bed, TV and dining table glass top. On the day of move, 3 men came to our apartment. They said they would not take anything that is not wrapped and they would charge me $15 to wrap the bed with their own blanket, $20 to wrap the mattress and $250 to wrap the TV, and another $250 to wrap my dining table glass top. I asked them to wrap the bed and the mattress and leave the TV and the glass top for us to bring to the apartment as we did not want to pay an extra $500. After spending few hours of loading our stuff into the car, not to mention they were really slow and careless, they took the car in front of the new building and gave us a bill on a scrap paper for $1752. The bill included 6 hours of work for $420 another $70 for their return to their office. $850 for the “long walk” (I live on the second floor of a building with an elevator and my apartment is the closest apartment to the main entrance), $300 for the 4 “steps” and the rest of the charges were for their blanket, tape and the mattress wrap. We spent about an hour (which we later paid an additional $70 for it) contacting their managers/owner, while the workers were on cigarettes break. At the end, they gave us no option but to pay their bill in CASH if we wanted to get our furniture back. They would not take our stuff out of their car unless we gave them $1752 in ONLY CASH. My husband ended up running to the bank on Saturday afternoon to get the money from our saving account. With no hesitation, this was one of the worst experiences of my life. As another victim of this corrupt company has stated; “they should be sued and convicted, yet they walk freely, taking advantage of hard working law abiding people like ourselves every day”.
