US Bank Sucks Money from Another Trusting Customer - Checking/savings accounts

- Colorado Springs, CO
September 11, 2007

Please consider my story.

TRUE STORY - US Bank took advantage of another trusting, hard working, person of limited means. To date, US Bank has charged me over $120.00 in fees. They moved $25.00 from my savings to checking and charged a $5.00 fee to do so. My meager account had only $4.48 left to cover the $5.00 fee, therefore, a $7.00 fee continues to accrue daily over .52 cents.

Upon discovery, I immediately called my US Bank branch believing they would be reasonable. I was happy to be connected to the personal banker who opened my account. I explained and asked that the fees be waived as the .52-cent overdraft generated from a fee THEY charged and not due to negligence. He turned on me instantly and said that it didn't matter how the fee was assessed or how little the overdraft was because it is an overdraft subject to their fees. Although stunned, I pleaded with him to waive the fees, but it bore no affect. I told him that I have no money to deposit, but I could stop by the bank with .52 cents. He coldly said, "You MUST know SOMEONE from whom you can borrow money." I told him this was outrageous. However, he did advise that they "charge off" accounts after they are past due 45 days. This equals $315.00 over .52 cents. I pleaded for compassion, but he replied, “You agreed to this when you opened the account.” Devastated and defeated, I slowly disconnected the call.

Now I know what it feels like to be raped by a giant; the extreme helplessness, the humiliation of begging to no avail, the terror of being held hostage and the hopelessness of no allies, remains with me. Who is it that allows the United States banking system to commit administrative terrorism? Is stealing no longer wrong, but encouraged? Does our government (or anyone) really care about a small, working class taxpayer being subjected to the equivalent of white-collar crime? If yes, then who? If not, I believe the time has come to embrace a modern day Robin Hood and an old-fashioned coffee can.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Cecilia Redlightning-Williams
Colorado Springs, CO

I too am having a similar problem with my bank, they put a hold on a stippen check that come from a government title 5 job which is less than an hundred and fifty dollars. and less than 24 hours they charge your account $35 dolars because of so called unavailable funds. I'm poor and living on less than $7,000 a year. All I wanted to do was buy food. And for that I'm penalized, with not recourse. Should the bank be able to take your money while charging you exorbitant fees over which you have no control.

US Bank Stole $395 dollars from me and left me broke without money for food or gas over a to dollar error on my part. Oddly enough not ONCE in any of the brochures was the $7 daily negative balance fee $37 per daily negative balance fee deduction fee domino effect explained in their agreements or brochures. They don't tell you about their 7 37 7 37 7 37 daily money machine scam. At the lowest point in my life when my wife kicked me out and I was scrimping and struggling just to eat they kicked me in the balls while I was down and got snotty and asinine when I was facing the prospect of two weeks without food because of their "fees". They can burn in hell.

Bingo...you hit the nail on the head. They ripped me off in nearly the same way, and I lived 50 mi. from the nearest US Bank, so by the time I corrected the balance that they deleted from (which sent me into overdraft) they charged an extra $7 per day, so by the time I got a statement, I was at least $35 more in the hole.
The guy I talked to in Denver at the main bank was far from sympathetic, so I jerked my account.
