We had a TV we needed to ship to our daughter in Florida. After calling around to several UPS stores to determine if it was possible to ship through UPS and was told it could be done, we chose the store on Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD. We were told the packaging and shippming would cost approximately $160. We took the TV in its original box unopened to the UPS store for repackaging and shipping. When the owner of the store, Mr. Kim saw that the TV was in its original box unopened, he told my husband and me, it did not need to be repackaged. We asked him if he was sure it did not need to be repackaged. He said yes, it did not need to be repackaged. So we took him for his word. We also insured the TV. When the television arrived in Florida, it was damaged. I telephoned UPS and let them know the TV was damaged. UPS told us to put the TV in its orignial packaging and it would be picked up. A few days after they picked up the TV, I called UPS and they told me UPS denied our insurance claim because the TV was not package properly. It was not packaged according to UPS guidelines. I would need to take it up with the owner of the UPS store. Now this is when I learned UPS stores are individual owned and not backed by UPS. I called the MBE, the franchiser and launch a complaint. After being bounced around from person to person, Mr. Andy Nepiken called me to tell me it was nothing MBE could do. This is ridiculous. How was I, thhe consumer, suppose to know what UPS packaging guidelines are? Also, why would Mr. Kim accept a package not problem package and insure it unless it is a scam to take the consumer money. I am being told there is no recourse. Someone needs to be held accountable.
