On Wednesday, March 16th a young, working, single-mother called her local Honda dealer about buying a car. She had been driving a borrowed car for the last year that finally broke down. Now this single-mother of 3 month old had to get into a car and quick. The predatory salesman told her they could get her the payment she needed, but she needed to come in right away. She told him that her mother could drive her by on Friday. She was then told that he could pick her up, and drive her down...it would only take about 30 minutes (red flag)! Nothing at a dealership takes only 30 minutes. So she, not having any knowledge or experience in car buying, agrees to be picked up. Two hours later the salesman advises her that after her insurance is revised to include physical damage, her total car payment + insurance would run about $500/mo. Almost double what she had talked about over the phone. After much back and forth she told him that she literally could not afford that and she followed that up by saying "I can't make that kind of decision on the spot". In a fit of frustration, the car salesman told her (a young woman holding a crying 3 month old) that "adults have to make hard decisions sometimes". When she stood firm on her decision not to buy the car, he told her "someone will take you home" and walked away.
THREE HOURS LATER (5 hours in total at the dealership) my wife gets a call from her best friend stranded at Autowest Roseville Honda asking for a ride home. THEY LEFT A YOUNG SINGLE MOTHER HOLDING A CRYING BABY IN THE LOBBY FOR 3 HOURS....and counting when my wife got the call...because she wouldn't buy a car. My wife picked her up and took her home, and I was outraged when I heard this story.
That is a sad story in humanity. Car Salesman get a bad rap as being predatory and ruthless. This goes beyond that. This goes to into being downright mean, manipulative, and spiteful. I hope this story sees the light of day, because if Autowest Honda Roseville did this to her, I can't imagine what they have done to countless other people to scare, and push them into buying a car they can't afford.
