My mother, L. Nguyen, wanted to hire a contractor to replace her old kitchen cabinets with new ones, and replace the vinyl countertops in the bathrooms with granite countertops. My mother doesn’t speak English well, so I (LD) offered to help my mother to search for a company could do the work.
I found a company named Service Magic, which could be a middle-man, to prefer me to a contractor that could do the job and Service Magic confirmed that they had thoroughly screened their contractors. Service Magic preferred my mother to a contractor named Mark (his real name on driver license is Sobha Ram Chowbay), who owns a company named One Stop Kitchen Bath & Floors, Inc (company address: 1319 Green Forest Ct., Unit 414, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Phone number: 407-222-9040. Email: onestopkitchen@cfl. rr.com).
After negotiating on material, prices, and time-line, my mother agreed to pay $8200 to have the work done ($5150 for the cherry cabinets in the kitchen, $2500 for the granite countertops in the bathrooms, and $550 for the backsplash tiles in the kitchen). The contract was signed on 3/13/10 and agreed that the whole project would be completed in 5 weeks.
The work had been delayed. Mark always came up with excuse to not coming to do the work. It was very stressful to know what day Mark would show up to do the job since I had left messages for him and he never returned my calls. Even until now, he has not returned to finish up the work.
By 4/8/10, Mark claimed the work was completed; however, the actual work wasn’t completed. I took some pictures of Mark’s work on 4/10/10. Damaged/scratched cabinets and wrong color of the backsplash tiles were installed in the kitchen. Wrong color of the granite countertop was installed in the bathrooms. There were many holes and worse workmanship was done around the sinks … etc … (I have pictures of these if you are interested in seeing them). I have contacted Mark to return to fix the problems, but he has not returned any of my calls.
I have contacted Service Magic to get help to resolve this matter. Glenn Keever is from Service Magic contractor relations office had contacted me and requested me to send him all the document pertaining to this kitchen project. After I provided Glenn all the information that he requested, he sent me an email on 5/31/10 telling me that he would start working on Service Guarantee with a reason that “we have reached a point where any further mediation would be futile".
If a TV station “on your side” could anyway help me to get this problem resolved, please do so. I have all necessary documents to support this story and can provide them to you upon request. Thank you.
