I am writing this letter to hopefully get help a nd to help others that have been faced with similar situations. I was laid off from my job in March 2009, from Baltimore Behavioral Health. Since that time I have been faced with an extreme amount of stress and uncertainty. I have not been able to find steady work and as much as I try to get ahead life takes me back. I have reached out to MANY city officals, orginaztions, churchs and individuals. I am greatful for all the people who have returned my calls and emails but with this particular issue no one has completely followed through. I have contacted BGE on several occasions and so have others on my behalf. I have explained my situation to them making them aware that I have to often times choose food for my children over any of my other financial obligations. I just started receiveing government assistance two months ago for all of my children. I was told that the county would follow up with BGE to make arrangements for me. Before I started receiveing assistance, I was living off of $256 a month which is what I'm allowed for having custody of my niece. I have three minor children, little income, no transportation, no assistance and all I keep hearing is ... your not the only one. This I know, however me and my three children are now in the dark and cold without food and no help. The only thing keeping me going is knowing that I am ALL my children have. Last year because of my situation, I was hospitalized because I tried to commit suicide. I am now on anti psychotics and anti depressents. At this point they are not working my 13 year old has issues with her lungs n my thermostat reads 50 degrees.... to have my children wish for something hot to eat or get up early just to make it to breakfast because its hot kills me. I'm being penalized for being poor and having to deal with the unjust, unforgiving society that would rather argue and belittle you for not having a job is to much. I have never had a criminal charge or any charge, I am educated with a bachelors degree and I have been working since age 14.... why can't I get HELP? I have tried all I can, I'm far from lazy, I will work digging ditches if it meant my children did not have to sleep in the cold and get dressed for school in the dark... I really am feeling like my life is over and I am afraid of how I am feeling mentally.... PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME....
