United Air Lines Complaint

Airline Grounds 86 Year Old World War II Disabled Veteran - Free Lifetime Travel Passes

- Chicago, Illinois
My name is Stephen E. Sherman. I am a World War II Disabled Veteran. I will be 87 Years old on January 10th, 2008.

I was hired by United Airlines on 10/31/1966 and I retired in November 1984.

As a part of my retirement "Buy Out" Package, I gave up 1/2 of my pension to receive "FREE" lifetime Airline passes.

After "911", United Airlines began charging a fee for my passes, which they were not supposed to do because of my retirement agreement. They were sued by another retiree and have now reinstated "FREE" coach travel to all retirees.

My problem is I fell behind in my payments for the fees that were being illegally charged to me for my travel, being on a fixed income. I received a notice on July 2007 that my account was past due and that I had 90 days to pay the balance.

I immediately paid the balance In Full. When United Airlines received my payment, I was called and told that my passes were revoked until June 2008.

This is illegal according to my "Retirement Agreement" and if they are going to stand by their decision, they should pay me the other half of my retirement.

I use my passes to visit my family in Denver, Colorado, also to attend funerals. I have 6 siblings (3 Brothers, 3 Sisters) between the ages of 74 and 92 all living in Denver. I need my passes to be reinstated so that I can visit my siblings. At 86 years old each day is precious.

Currently my older Brother, 92 years old is ill and I need to go to Denver and see him. At 92 years old each day is a "Blessing".

I have spoken to "The Retirement" Department at United Airlines and all they require is a simple Email from the head of the pass department telling them to reinstate my passes.

I have called the pass department several times and each time have been treated as a child. On the last call they were extremely rude to me, talking down to me as though I am a nobody. I was told to get a buddie pass from my friends or pay full fare for my trips.

I fought for this country in The European Theater and The Pacific Theater. Probably before she was born and she has no right to treat me as she is doing. Punishing me as if I am a child.

On Veterans Day, November 10, 2007 I was in Chicago as the "keynote" speaker at The American Legion. I am the Commander of "The Dorie Miller" Americn Legion Post 639 in Los Angeles, California. I went to the CEO's office and spoke with his Executive Assistant and was told by her that she would see that my passes were reinstated. I have not received even a phone call from her.

Please help me, I need my passes!

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Sincerly
Stephen E. Sherman
