Roto rooter is currently the defendant in a superior court case claiming that they send unlicensed people posing as licensed plumbers to homes and buisnesses in Massachusetts. They have for years been running an apprenticeship program that allows people with no mechanical ability to earn a plumbing license by accepting a smaller wage. They are engaged in doing gas piping, and heat piping both of which pose dangers to the consumer. The State Board of examiners of plumbers and Gas fitters are involved in an on going investigation and the case was recently moved from federal to superior court. Thier is also a federal class action suit against the Company alledging the company fails to pay their employees fair wages and makes them carry the buisness expenses by purchasing the company trucks and paying for their up keep. The case in superior court is being prosecuted by Lisa Carlson at Mass Bay Law associates. Although this case is being brought by former employees it also involves consumer fraud as these techs who perform the plumbing work do not disclose to the consumer that they are in fact un-licensed. The company charges the same flat rates as if they were licensed plumbers. This companies buisness practices put the public health in grave danger at a time when the cities and towns gas piping and potable water supplies are in need of repair more and more often. Please consider this, How many water main breaks have happened in Massachusetts flooding the streets and then think about the instances of water main breaks in Homes where with out proper backflow prevention could be allowing antifreeze from heating system into the towns water supply if not repaired by a qualified and licensed person. Our Gas Piping Mains under or streets are failing, imagine what they look like inside the older and un repaired homes in our neghborhoods. They require a person with training and expertise to repair them properly, Recently in Northern Mass a Home was evacuated after a Person Posing as a Plumber (who worked for Roto Rooter) repaired a Gas Fired Hot water Heater. The Home Filled with Gas and could have exploded if the consumer hadn't smelt the gas and called the gas company to shut off the Lin e to the Home.
