DirecTV Complaint

Tuned in and Got TRAPPED! - Cable/Satellite

- Vancouver WA

We made a decision to switch from Comcast to DirecTV to receive a set monthly price based upon DirecTV advertising. We were quoted a "lock-in" price $49.83 per month for a period of 12 months, and then the monthly price would increase by $10 for the next 12 months. After installation, I received an email stating I had to sign up for automation bill payment, through my checking account, otherwise I was going to be charged an additional $10 per month. I paid that amount on the first bill and then attempted to dispute that charge based on company disclosure, or lack thereof. This payment plan was never discussed with me prior to installation. The very next bill I received was $68.45 -- The $10.00 for not allowing DirecTV to take the money out of my account (which they are now calling "HD"), a $5.99 protection plan (first month free and then a charged thereafter--again not disclosed), and a price increase. After spending a great deal of time on the phone with Customer Service, I was promised a return phone call by a supervisor within 48 - 72 hours. I am still waiting for that call .. which was placed on 2/15/2011. I called the following week, and spoke to another service agent that actually adjusted the bill and "promised" this would not happen again...which I understood to mean I would be charged the agreed upon amount of $49.83. I received my third bill today, and am being charged again $68.45! I called --again-- and was on the phone for one and a half hours to no avail. They actually disconnected service for a time! The only solution I am being offered is to pay the $480.00 early cancellation fee. DirecTV promises many things on their website, the least of which includes the following statement: "Our first priority is to be here for you whenever you need us and to provide you with prompt, courteous and excellent service". DirecTV is not willing to address my concerns. This is in DIRECT conflict with their very own statement! I believe their practices are just short of false advertising. The perfect resolution for me is to have this service cancelled, at no charge, and walk away lesson learned. Post-script: I have already report this to the BBB, and have yet to receive a response.
