Toyota Motors CEO and Freedom Motors were notified on December 7, 2009 that they had a major construction problem with the Toyota Sienna Handicap vans. Toyota authorizes Freedom Motors to modify their Sienna vans for rear entry for physically challenged people. In the modification of the van the vapor canister was placed below the gas tank. The Toyota part was designed to be above the gas tank. This construction error allows for gasoline to fill the canister versus vapors, thus a potential fire danger and it causes damage to the fuel system. Neither Toyota or Freedom Motors (represented by Aero Mobility in Santa Ana California)have done anything to correct this dangerous construction error. This vehicle was sold to me by Aero Mobility in San Diego with the guarantee that Toyota approved of this modification and that it would not void our Toyota warranty.

Thousands of these vans are on the street, and there is no way for the consumer to protect themselves outside of a recall. Has anyone been hurt so far, I do not know and no one will tell me.
