Toyota Prius 2001 Runs Amuk Causing Accident - 2001 Toyota Prius

- purchased from Performance Toyota, rt 422 west, sinking spring, PA
We purchased this vehicle on 4/6/06 in September of that same year the vehicle malfunctioned and caused an accident on the turnpike. All the dashlights came on and the vehicle lost power it was coasted to the side and was dead. The vehicle then (in park) started up alone full throttle in reverse and slammed into the guardrail behind it, causing over 5000 dollars worth of damage. It should have been totaled but an individual from the car insurance company...admittedly new to the hybrids....said it was fixable. The problem has been intermittent and reoccurring ever since. By the time it gets to the dealership it runs fine and any codes are wiped out when it returns to normal functioning condition. It is still under warranty as I bought it used. They have replaced all the batteries....the problem is the car is seriously defective. Toyota will not help. I have reams and of notes and service papers. I have taken it all the way to the attorney generals office....all to no avail. I have a picture of the dash lit up like a Christmas tree just last week....ive recontacted them all.....but as far as they are concerned the case is closed. I am stuck with a defective automobile which is not worth the amount owed on it because of some flukey rules and carfax..not that I would put this car on someone else in this condition. I'm at the point where I am thinking of a voluntary recall because its not even worth the trade in value at this point. BUt the clincher is this....all the money I paid in plus my trade in was paid off. I'm on disability and can't afford another vehicle. So I feel that I'm just stuck with this death trap......any chance you can help? Even though they experienced it once....they maintain they fixed it by replacing batteries....they didn't. Ive literally been fighting this since the accident in September 2006 like 6 months after it was bought. It can go for long periods without it happening.....but you have to always be prepared for it to happen, never leave your foot off the brake if your stopped. Please help, I can't afford another payment, disability isn't much. Thanks.
