In January 2007 my Toyota Tundra catastrophically skidded out of control; I lost control of the steering and my wheel folded underneath my truck causing my vehicle to swerve and come to a stop in the middle of a two lane road. Fortunately I was the only one on the road at the time. The ball joint had failed. Toyota was in the process of recalling these vehicles for ball joint failure. The ball joint was replaced and I was informed that the recall items were completed (BOTH ball joints were to be replaced under the recall.) Two days ago, I experienced the same steering problem and was told that the power steering gear mechanisms had failed - the repair would cost $1700! I then called Toyota National Sales Center and was told that the recall WAS NEVER PERFORMED!!!!
Toyota of Roswell had lied to me! NOW, (December 2007)they performed the recall item, and MIRACULOUSLY the power steering gear mechanism failure disappeared!!!! No charge for the recall. Their NEGLIGENCE in falsely informing me that the ball joints had both been repaired would have led to another catastrophic incident like that in January; I might not have been as lucky this time!!!
