April 2, 2011,I purchased a 6.5 engine for a go-kart. A
gentleman there was very helpful in assisting me. he urged me to purchase a one to two year extended warranty, he took the engine to the cashier for me while I continued to look around, he returned and requested me to fill out the card for my personal information. After I completed the info on the card, went to the Cashier to complete my transaction.
The Cashier also suggested I purchase the extended warranty. It would guarantee replacement, no questions asked even if I should misplace my receipt because the information would be in their database and could be retrieved by my phone number
thus giving me greater piece of mind of their secure customer service. The young woman even had me double check the information I had given her by repeating it back to me before completing the transaction.
The gentleman returned to assist me in loading the engine into my car.
Shortly After returning home with the engine, I received a call informing me of the death of my Aunt. Therefore there is no mistake of the date of purchase. After placing the motor with new clutch throttle cable, we quickly discovered the motor was defective. After spending time on line trying to solve problem, we also discovered that this was a common problem with this motor.
After many attempts and dollars trying to solve problem, I loaded the engine back into original box and all paper work and manuals I realized had indeed misplaced the receipt.
Giving the unexpected death and funeral I attended out of
State, I was not surprised I couldn't find receipt. I called
Harbor Freight and again was assured that this was not a problem due to the extended warranty. Well after arriving at Harbor Freight to trade engine, things quickly became completely unbelievable.
It seems once the manager discovered that I did not have a receipt and had paid cash they could not find my number or my name in their computer and refused to honor my warranty.
So I left and returned the next day. At that time both the gentleman as well as the cashier that had help me with my purchase of the engine remembered me and verified that I had indeed purchased the engine and a two year warranty.
The manager walked off and left me standing there. He disappears into the back only to return and inform me no motor had been sold that day.
Although employees and myself stood there persisting that I
had indeed purchased the engine and warranty. The manager told the employees to return to work if they wanted to keep their jobs and walked off and left me standing there with absolute no explanation other than we had all imagined the
sell took place.
HARBOR FREIGHT sold me a defective engine with a two year warranty then lost or deleted my transaction and left me standing there with absolute no explanation other than we had all
just imagined the sale took place. They took me for well over a hundred dollars and instructed their employees to either ignore me and return to work or be fired. I swear this is in no way a exaggeration of the appalling situation that took place.
This kind of injustice cannot go unaccounted for .
Please Help.
