I have seasonal allergies and had started an Upper Respiratory Infection and my MD requested a chest xray.
Since I was also referred to a pulmonolgist for a procedure he suggested I get this done at the local hospital(Outpatient) so the specialist would have easy acess to the films.
I did this and received a bill for 528.41 charged for a 2 view xray that I could have gotten at the local clinic or specialty radiology clinic for $54-$78.00.
I have very good insurance that would still only pay $69.86 of the amount and they reduced the contractual amount another $200.00 leaving me yet another $257.76 bill I am required to pay. I had a full procedure (Bronchoscopy) and my 10% co pay is less than this 1 chest xray.
This is the problem with our Health Care System today. I pay top premiums with co payments to all Md's I see.
When a local hospital charges these amounts. I would like to know WHAT they did differently than the other facilities I could have gone to get the same test at approximately 7 times lesser the price.
I find this absolutely apalling in America today with the economy we are currently in. Talk about deficits...maybe they will file bankruptcy and receive huge bail outs because anyone in their right mind would not pay those prices.
