Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Complaint

The Oops We Made a Mistake Defense - Hyatt Gift Cards sold at Costco

- California - Newport Beach, CA
I contracted with they Hyatt Regency Newport Beach for a block of rooms for my daughter's wedding. We are also having a rehearsal dinner there for 116 people and a breakfast buffet. My guests are using 152 room nights at the hotel. The hotel assured me both verbally and in writing that they would accept Hyatt Gift Cards sold at Costco as payment for the rooms by my guests. I told my guests this and they purchased the certificates from Costco. Two days before the first guest was to arrive, the hotel sent me an email saying they would no longer accept these certificates from my guests. They do not deny that they told me the certificates would be acceptable. They now say they simply "made a mistake" and are now refusing to honor the commitment they made to me and my guests. The certificates are essentially worth a 20% savings on the room rate. After days of back and forth complaints about this sudden turn of events, the Hyatt has agreed to accept the certificates from SOME guests, namely the parents and grandparents of the bride and groom. This is capricious and arbitrary. In writing they specifically included my sister as being able to use the gift cards and are now denying her (and all other similarly situated guests) that ability. It is simply wrong to promise one thing and deliver another.
