FRIGHT FEST - Truly the thrill seekers destination during the Halloween season. After all, you can ride scary roller coasters and if that thrill isn't enough you can go into the haunted houses, they have at least 5 of them! Sound exciting? It sounded great to us, a family of five, until we arrived. First of all, and for good reason the water park is closed. So, since there are no costs associated with the upkeep of that, one would assume that Fright Fest is taking it's place - - WRONG! You pay the same price to get in, but THEN ALL THE HAUNTED HOUSES ARE AN EXTRA CHARGE ONCE YOU ENTER! 5.00 EACH!! Do the math, when you have a family of 5 that's an extra 125.00 added on to the parking fee and the cost of the tickets. But that's not the worst part, the worst part is once you enter they are shorting the cars. If a coaster has enough room for 50 people, you can bet there are only 25 to 30 people riding it at a time and the lines just keep getting longer as the day goes on. Why you ask, it's simple. If they short the cars then people will go and purchase a "Fast Track" pass, at a cost of around 35.00 each, then they can schedule their ride and they won't have to wait. So, once you figure out you have been taken, you can forget about a refund. Unlike any other reputable business, at Great America there are no refunds once you enter the gate and you are not getting what you paid for. AND - - - THERE IS NO SIGN IN FRONT telling you of the extra charges OR NO MENTION OF THE EXTRA CHARGES ON THEIR RADIO AND TV ADS. When you call about their lack of making you aware, they fall back on the fact that it is in small print on their website. The food is outrageous and once you are in the parking lot, which is pricey to park in, you can not leave and return. So, you are forced to eat in the park unless you want to bring cold sandwiches and eat from your cooler in the parking lot. I would trust the carnies at the hometown carnivals more than I trust these people, at least they are who they are and they don't try to misrepresent what they have to offer. My advice is - - DON'T DO IT! If you want to enjoy some festivities for Halloween, it would cost you less to visit several haunted houses and corn mazes. Probably be more fun too!
