The youngest of our 4 daughters will be married June 19. Her dress arrived at the The Wedding Shoppe and she tried it on in Oct. At that time, she was told that if alterations were performed by shop there would be no "storage" fee. No cost for repairs were given at that time, however.
Tuesday 4/5 she arrived for her first fitting and was given a cost of $350 to alter her gown & informed she must pay prior to services rendered. Peculiar practice. I asked her to pick up the dress to have our personal seamstress alter the dress. She was informed by the store owner she must pay $105 "storage" fee for the dress which was hanging on the retail floor with the sample gowns, merely shielded by a curtain. No special "storage" area provided here, but pay up, sucker.
Now to add insult to injury, clearly the dress had been ordered way too large for my daughters tiny frame to require such an enormous amount of altering, she had been taken advantage of by not having been given prices regarding steep alteration costs, and since when does a consumer prepay for services not yet rendered (alterations). They even had the nerve to call my daughter to ask when she would be in with payment so they could begin. What if something went wrong?
I ask you, does this seem like sound business practice? After having made 3 weddings in the past 4 years, I think NOT!!
The bottom line is that my husband and I, along with our daughter went into the store yesterday 4/8 to pick up the paid if full gown and the owner refused to relinquish it to us without paying the "storage" fee. After the way she has treated my daughter, her poor business choices and rude behavior, it was out of the question.
Our future son in law fought in Iraq for 15 months and who is in the army RANGER corp. is APPALLED with this womans behavior. We just want this to be the happiest day of our daughters life, and she is in tears not knowing whether she will be walking down the aisle in the dress of her dreams.
Can you help us PLEASE? I sincerely hope there is some justice that can be attained here by consumer protection laws or something because we only have NINE weeks left to get our dress back. None of us can understand why this woman won't just do the right thing and give us our dress.
We are all eagerly awaiting anything you can do to help, with much anticipation!
Thank you so very much,
Sincerely,
Shelli Zicherman
