The Bedding Corner / Park Place Mattress Company / Latex International Complaint

Defective Product - Mattress / Pillows

- Virginia - Hanover Virginia
On January 20,2007 I purchased a King size mattress set and pillows from The Bedding Corner located in Hanover County.
Two weeks after using the mattress it developed sink holes.

It offered no support and sagged in the middle, like a mattress that is in need of replacing. The pillows by King Koil, distributed by latex international off gassed so bad that they were suffocating me in my sleep. I was waking with sever headaches and gasping for air. I talked to the place of purchase which was The Bedding Corner. The owner Sharon Cafeo, stated that she could exchange the mattress but could not do anything for me with the pillows because we used them. The mattress was exchanged but we were made to pay forty dollars, or no mattress upon delivery. This made me angry for two reasons. The first being we only had the mattress two weeks and it became defective, the retailer should have been more than happy to exchange it without any charge. The mattress is suppose to be a top of the line product. The second reason I was angry is that I was never informed of a charge before delivery.

The manufacturer of the pillows sent me out new pillows, that I can not use, therefore I wanted to return the new still in the box pillows back to The bedding Corner, however the owner still refused to take them back. The replacement mattress has also failed, it did the same as the first mattress. It developed deep sink holes within two weeks and does not have any support. Do to the fact that it was the only mattress in the store that I had interest in and due to the fact the owner will only exchange the mattress and not the box spring on any mattress( giving a mix matched set) I want my money back. She refused to do so, and had me put out of the store by the police because I did not agree with her. This case has gone to court.

I was informed by the judge that I would have to prove that I have developed health problems resulting from the use of this defective product, and that the product is in fact defective. I had proved the product was defective and that I had in fact suffered some health issues as result of using this defective product.

However in court a representative of the mattress manufacturer Park Place showed up and argued the manufacturer warranty stated that they could offer a refund at their discretion, and the judge for no apparent reason went off on me saying that their discretion meant that they could if they wanted to or they did have too. I tried to speak to the judge about that when he became angry stating that I was not to argue with him and if I spoke one more word he was going to hold me in contempt and said that he was ready to rule and ruled in favor of the defendant. However we were not there to argue anything with Park Place. We were there to prove we were sold a defective product and we had been told by this repersentive that our refund would have to come from the Bedding Corner. After this the repersentive has tried to get us to take a third mattress staing give it another chance. He waqnts us to hauld this kingsized mattress 60 miles form our home to another store and exchaage it for another of the same defective product. Kowning that when we arrive with this mattress there more than likely to have a problems where they refuse to take it back, then two weeks from now we more than likely have another defective product on our hands. I have talked to the owner fo the mattress manufactor and he states there is nothing he can do either because we did not give him or his company the money we purchased their product through the Bedding Corner. I have written the BBB & cosumer affairs and they stated, there was nothing they can do because the store has a no refund policy, which was not posted in the store. It was on the bottom of a delivery recipt, that I was told to sign for deliverly, which the store is now saying is the receipt. The receipt was a register tape that did not have anything on it other than the sale. This ordeal has gone on for one year now and I can not understand what I did wrong. I just wanted a good mattress and pillows to sleep on. Had known the store had a one way sales policy I would have never shopped there. I feel in my heart that this is so wrong. The mattress has a fifteen year warrentee why would I think I would have this type of problem in two weeks. Please help me expose this bad business. There has been all type of untruths that I cursed them out and they felt threatened for their lives.

I just had a mattress sales person in my home to see this replacement mattress, (the third). We have had this piece of junk since May of this year. What we received is not even the 14" mattress we paid for. The box is warped and now crushing. Iam sleeping on an angle. I have tried to talk to the owners of Park Place due to the fact I was told by a judge that our warranty is with Park Place not the sorry place of purchase. The Bedding Corner. However neither one will respond. The owner J.Orders.
Please feel free to email me.

Have you ever thought that the problem is with your support system? Buy a good support system like a Glydeaway brand and you will get he support you want! I own 5 sets of the Park Place bedding and love all of them! The difference is in the support system.

i don't know how to reach the Park Place CO TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE MATTRESS I PURCHASED. THE RETAILER I BOUGHT IT FROM went out of business. Spencer's Mattress World..2206 Hwy 17 South..North Myrtle Beach, s.c. 29582. I bought it almost 2 yrs ago, but it is in a spare room and is hardly ever used. I don't have much sleepover company except around Christmas time. It is sagging in the middle and i feel they should do something about it. It is the 5/0 Rhapsody set. could anyone help me? I am having a similar problem that has been going on for several months. I am still waiting to hear back from Park Place. After internet research and talking with many mattress companies, seems like there are many similar stories. If anyone is interested in working together to get something resolved, let me know.

My husband and I have also had a problem with the Park Place Mattress. We have two large holes after just 6 months. Because the store closed where we bought it the President of the Company wants us to bring it (a King size mattress) to a factory in Denver,PA about 75 miles away to get it fixed. I find this totally ridiculous and after reading all these stories, I am sure that it will probably happen again. Not sure where to turn.

I too purchased a top of the line latex , king size mattress 14 months ago. I am on this site to do some research before I got back to the place where I bought the mattress tomorrow. I wake up every morning around 4 am with my hip joint hurting very bad. So I end up tossing and turning most of the night. I thought maybe I had back problems or joint problems until I went on vacation and slept very good on another bed without any joint pain. The night I return, I woke up with the same problem. The mattress sinks and appears to have become very dense or hard. I might as well be sleeping on the floor. It is after midnight and I dread going to bed. So, wish me luck tomorrow as I pass my complaint along. I believe I paid around $2,000 and it makes me sick to think I might not get a better replacement. I will let you know how it turns out.

Very sorry to hear about all these problems. Mattresses can be very deceiving and the industry is as bad as the used car industry. Stick with
NAME brand mattresses, Sserta, Sealy, etc and buy from a LOCAL delaer--not big chain stores or discount warehouses. There are reasons these mattresses are in the warehouses. Look good, low quality. In addition, if you feel you are being pressured by a salesperson run, don't walk, out of the store. IF a salesperson shows you a name brand and then shows you a no name and tells you it's the same quality, you are being SOLD. The sroe
