In early September, I started getting the phone calls. I was repeatedly harassed on my phone by a so-called "company" called eLove. The representative that kept hounding me was named Rachel (never gave her last name). She was relentless in getting me to come in to meet a Kat (again with no last name) from eLove. I got so sick of the harassment, I finally conceded to go to an appointment, which was set up in a remote area in Palo Alto, California in a practically abandoned building. The setting was really weird. There was absolutely no one around, and Kat and I basically had the first floor to ourselves.
If I thought the phone call harassment was bad, the visit was TEN times worse. Kat refused to let me leave until I signed on. She told me the membership would cost me $6,000. I told her I didn't have that kind of money, hoping that that would get me off their hook. She said she would call her manager to see if there was anything they could do. After leaving the room no more than five minutes, she returned and said she could give me the "student" rate of $2,500. Talk about psychological headgames....she had me convinced that I was getting a bargain. So like an idiot, I wrote out a check for $500. as a down payment to this matchmaking service. The last words from Kat were, "Go home and pick out your 'outfit' to wear!" She made it sound like I would have my first date in the next couple of days, at the latest. Oh! Did I mention that she asked me for a voided check, too, so that they could take direct withdrawals of $105.40 from my bank account monthly, and like the fool that I am, I voided a check. What was I thinking?! Obviously, I wasn't!
After signing on, I got a couple of calls from Rachel again saying how excited they were that I joined, and that they had "THE PERFECT GUY!" Come to find out that this was a bunch of bs. I signed on September 9th and to date, I have not gone on ONE DATE! They're a bunch of liars and cheats. I was totally scammed.
For kicks one night, I googled their name on the internet, and before typing out the full name (eLove Matchmakers of MV -- what is MV anyway????), a subtitle eLove Complaints popped up, so I opened it. What an eye opener...others had been taken like myself for thousands of dollars. There was more than one complaint that claimed that eLove was the third generation company following two other companies called The Right One and Together. Apparently when victims got on their trail, they changed their name to stay under the radar.
I emailed twice and called eLove back to try to get my $500.00 back, but they said I was past the date to do that. I ended up having to close my bank account so they wouldn't get any more money from me. They threatened to send me to collections. Bring it on!
I really do hope you let the word out to the public to be aware of eLove and companies like them. The public is being taken BIG TIME!!!!!
