Star European Inc. Complaint

Duped by car ad - 1981 Mercedes Benz 300 CD Turbo

- Costa Mesa, California
My 20-yesr-old son saved up his money to purchase a 1981 Mercedes Benz Turbo Diesel Coupe. The car was listed on Cars.com and the lettering on the back stated that it was a turbo. We purchased the car on Monday, Jan. 28 for $4999 plus tax. At no time during the transaction, were we told that the car was not a turbo model. My son drove the car back to Los Angeles and had it checked out by a Mercedes repair shop. He was told that the car was not a turbo model. We called Peter, the owner of Star European, Inc. to return the car but he refused to take it back. He said that he would only take it on consignment, which is unfair. My son feels that he was duped by this company and that Peter knew the car was not a Turbo. My son would like to return the car and be fully refunded. We are asking for your help to resolve this problem.

Thank you.

It is unfortunate that your son had such an unpleasant experience at Star European, however this company is known for shady and underhanded practices. The owner of Star European, Peter Bauer is a well known 'car gypsy' type, and rountinely gives his customers the bad end of a deal. He works with another fraudster, Gary Clark, also in Costa Mesa / Newport area, and between them they have fleeced many a car buyer.
