Spirit Airlines Complaint

Spirit Airlines Crashes Consumer Spirit!

- New York
Hi- I writing to complain about being scammed and mislead by Spirit Airlines. I have been a loyal customer of Spirit Airlines for several years, flying twice per year to visit my family in the Floriday Keys. In January of this year, the company overbooked the flight I was on, and I agreed to get off the plane with the promise that I would receive a free round-trip ticket for anywhere Spirit Airlines flies, for use AT ANY TIME within the year. Recently, I tried to use the free ticket voucher to book a flight to visit my family for the holidays. I was told the only voucher dates available would require me to be out of work for close to 3 weeks, which is completely impossible. Then I tried to use the voucher to visit a friend in Chicago for a simple 3-day weekend. I was told that there were no combination of dates that would get me out of New York, into Chicago, and back home without me missing several days of work.

After I finished yelling about how unbelievable it is to me that I got off a plane that their company overbooked and now not a single soul will work to accommodate me in any way, I asked the most recent agent I spoke with, who said his name was "Kevin Thomas," the Floor Supervisor in Reservations, for a phone number for the legal department of Spirit Airlines, which he said he had no access to. I asked to speak with his supervisor- he said he had none. I asked for any number in any department of anyone other than him to speak with, and he said he had no access to this information. I told him that this was clearly a lie, but he again refused to accommodate a simple request. He told me that my only option was to send an email to corporate, which I tried to do, only the website conveniently is unable to send the email, as it keeps requesting that all the cells within the online form be filled in, which they were.

It is absolutely unbelievable to me that after I accommodated Spirit's screw-up, I am now unable to use this "free ticket," which expires at the beginning of January, due to all the restrictions placed on it. It is also unbelievable to me that any company would practice such poor customer service. The only accommodation I have asked from them is to allow me to use the ticket I received as a result of their inability to book flights correctly. So, not only did they misrepresent themselves to me and the person they overbooked, but they also misrepresented themselves by telling me I could use the free ticket at any time.

I work 60+ hours a week as a social worker in a not-for-profit clinic in New York City taking care of extremely ill teens, and all I want is to take a short trip to see my friend in Chicago, or to fly out and see my family for the holidays. I am writing to you because what Spirit Airlines did is disingenuous, deceitful, and just plain wrong, and I need someone to help me. I will be writing to anyone and everyone who will help me, as the era or corporate greed and misrespresentation simply must end.

Thank you in advance for your time and for anything you can do to help.
