We bought our TV January 2005. According to the back model info it was built in Nov 2004. Early this year, around April 2009, we started seeing a large blue streak run up the left side. It was getting worse and distorting our movies etc. I began looking online for info re: this problem. Stumbled onto the "Get Satisfaction" site and found dozens of others throughout the country with the same problem. The majority of us contacted Sony about this issue only to find out they were aware of it and yet offered an extended warranty that ended December 2008. Many of us were not aware of this warranty. By the time we experienced the problem we were told it was "too late". A Sony representative called me and the offer was the same as everyone else's - so much towards the repair or a discounted new Sony TV. We had paid over $2500 for our set that barely made it to 4 years. Why on earth would we want to shell out more money for a faulty set was my question to the representative Sony was well aware that this was a manufacturing or design error and yet they refuse to stand behind it and be held accountable. Unbelievable! With today's economy issues many of us are not in a position to replace such an expensive set. Yet, Sony continues to ignore our plight and make things right. I even contacted our local Attorney General's office to be told they cannot do anything for an individual and must represent a large number group. The NY BBB is the one who suggested/recommended I contact our local AG office. This is not a small group of individuals who are and have experienced this problem. We are outraged, angry and shocked that Sony will not "fix" this problem. Their offer is also a ludicrious one - $400 towards an over $1000 repair (who knows that it won't occur again since the optical block has issues) or a discounted TV that would still cost us consumers a good penny. We had a Toshiba 32" set that is still going and is over 10 years old. Too bad we gave it to our daughter. Now that was/is a good TV and it didn't cost us half of what the faulty Sony did.
