I own one of the Sony Grand Wega models. Paid $2700 + the extended service plan four years ago which expired on 05/09. My TV went bad a month ago. Many customers were never notified about the recall.
Here's what Sony is writinhg to customers:
Thank you for contacting Sony Support. I'm sorry that the Optical Block of the Sony TV need to be replaced. Please note that Sony had indeed issued an extended warranty for this model for the Optical Block issue. However, this process expired on December 31, 2008. A number of customers had benefited from this program and it is unfortunate that you could not use that opportunity. As the process is discontinued, I can only suggest that you've the TV serviced at one of our Authorized Service Centers.
