SONY KNOWINGLY SOLD DEFECTIVE WEGA TV'S - Wega LCD Rear Projection TV's

- All over the USA
May 2005 I purchased a Sony Wega TV Model KDF50WE655 from Circuit City in West Nyack NY for $,2800. The set worked great, but after 3 years I noticed a blue light in the left corner and it started to spread. I thought it was the lamp and knew at some point that had to be replaced. I called Circuit City as I took out the extended warranty, but they went out of business. I called Sony Customer Service several times they pretended they did not know what the problem was and since the set was out of warranty I had to call an authorized repair shop. I googled my problem and was quite shocked to see hundreds of sites with hundreds of people experiencing the exact same problem. I learned was the optical block and that Sony knew about the optical block problem but continued to sell thees WEGA TV's. I saw Sony exteneded the warranty on my set for a short window of time but did not notify any customers. I of coursed missed the 12/2008 warranty extension along with thousands of other WEGA owners. Sony also lost a class action suit in Ca. reguarding these sets.
I called Sony customer service back and expressed my frustration that they #1 pretended they did not know about the problem and #2. Why didn't they notify their customers of the extended warranty? All they kept saying is we're sorry your experiencing problems with you TV. After lots of pressure I received a call offering me $400 towards a repair of $869.00 or a replacement set which would cost me $1,300 plus tax. I could have bought the same set cheaper in the stores. The optical block repair probably would fail after another 2-3 years. Recently I went on Sony's Facebook page and made comments regarding poor customer service. Hundreds of other WEGA owners also posted and finally Sony blocked us from their Facebook page. Suddenly we all got emails and calls making us the same pathetic offer I mentioned above. I requested they just fix my set at no cost that's all I want. I don't want another Sony product but they refused. Sony is spending billions on advertising but can't make their customers who bought and spent thousands of dollars on defective sets a decent offer.
If you google Sony Wega, or go on Facebook "I have a defective Sony" you will see what people are going through and how upset and disguested we are with Sony. Sony use to stand for quality. I was proud to own a Sony product. Not any more, they are not the company they use to be.
I hope this story gets attention and Sony is forced to take responsibility for knowingly selling a defective product.
