After seeing my son's HD TV, my wife and I decided we needed to upgrade our old Sony. To this point we had no reason to expect anything but the best from Sony.
At the local store we saw a TV displayed all by its self with all other TV sets pushed to one side so as not to steal it's spotlight. The salesman came up and said what good taste we had for looking at the best set on the market. It was a 60" HD Sony using the latest technology. And I assumed it was since the price tag was over $5000.
Initially, we were thrilled with the picture. But after 3 years, something strange started to happen. People began turning green. Then everything turned green.
When we finally found out what was happening, Sony's secret extended warranty had expired. We were told to take it to a local authorized Sony service center for repair, at our expense. The service center said the repair would cost about $1000 but they could only put in the same type of part that failed since Sony had not corrected the problem. They said the problem would reoccur.
I found a site frequented by others with the same problem. I sometime get more than a dozen emails a day from furious customers with the this issue.
Sony is ignoring it.
