New Concord Green is a condominium property in Norwich CT. Last fall (2010) SNET/SBC came to the condominium property and excavated a 10' round, 4' deep pit, presumably as some sort of equipemnt upgrade. This was done with no prior notice given to the property owner. Additionally, they killed a shrub, and left a large green utility box, meant to be buried so the cover is flush with the ground, sitting on the side of the pit. Then they suddenly dissappeared- leaving the hole and the mess.
Last fall, I called twice to report the unfinished work and my concerns of both property damage and dangerous situation should someone fall into the hole. This was no easy task, as it is near impossible to get a live person on the phone to report a problem without an account number- and again this was not for a specific account number, but rather a system upgrade. I have service ID's and eventually in November was able to get a representative from the enginnering department to inspect the situation (I have service confirmation #'s). They said that likely SBC hired a sub-contractor who must have been called out on another job and likely forgot about finishing the work on our property. I was assured it would be taken care of. Yet no actions were taken and the open pit remained.
Last month, I again spoke with SNET/SBC and was promised a response. Additionally I sent a certified letter (also a bit of a nightmare- try finding an address for them!- not on the website for sure, including pictures, asking for the issue to be corrected. Again no response or action.
The hole remains, it is a potentially dangerous situation, and I have run out of options for recourse.
