Smartway Appliance Complaint

Smartway Appliance is a SCAM operation

- Dallas Metroplex
We contacted Smartway Appliance to see if they could fix the softener dispenser on our Maytag washer. The serviceman came to our home, concluded that the dispenser tray was defective and we paid the man to order another part for us. The price they charged for the part was quite high, but agreed anyway. It was suppose to be a week before the part would arrive. After two weeks, we called and we were told the part was back ordered. After a month, we were told that the part was delivered, but to the wrong address. A week later now, the part was suppose to be delivered today, but when it wasn't, Doug, the only customer support person at the company, informed me that the mistake was his and the part would be delivered tomorrow. I can tell you now that the part won't be delivered tomorrow or ever. There is no doubt that the few individuals operating Smartway Appliance are running a scam.

They have their trail covered pretty well. The website looks pretty, and they appear to have a several phone numbers. The have done their homework to give the appearance that they are a thriving business. However, all phone numbers, even the Houston area number, route to "DOUG". All automatic emails, like the ones to "customer service", "manager", "web designer", all route back to "DOUG". I've attempted to track information about this company, but mostly with no success.

A Joel may be the owner, but another scammed customer indicated that they had a different name for the owner.

These people are thieves, plain and simple.

These phone numbers, (469) 252-5078, (713) 623-1343, (469) 252-0107, all route to "Doug". The only thing you'll get from "Doug" is the runaround. These email addresses: customerservice@smartwayappliance.com

I have a similar experience with Smartway. They came out to fix our washer, told us they really couldn't take a credit card so we paid by check and they "ordered" the part (we'll never do that again!). After a month of waiting (and a scheduled appt that they didn't show up or call to cancel), we demanded a refund. Doug told us we had to wait 30 days before we could get one. Doug told us the refund would take 10-14 business days (that was on May 18) As of July 23, we never did receive the money. Whenever we do get ahold of Doug on the phone (which isn't often since they hardly ever answer!), he keeps saying the same thing about the check is being processed! We have filed a complaint with the BBB, and if we don't get they money back soon, we will go to Small Claims court. This company is ridiculous! One time I did reach someone in the Houston office by the name of Michael, but now no one answers the phone down there either.

I read both of these comments about Smartway Appliance and my experience was "Exactly" the same. Same story from "Doug" and same run around. The website for Smartway is now down and the phone number has been disconnected. They have not responded to the BBB complaint I filed last August and they are no where to be found to file a Smaill Claims case against them. This is no longer a Small Claims action...the is a criminal action! I'm sure the people behind this operation will continue to pursue this criminal activity in some form. They will continue to steal from homeowners a few hundred dollars at a time. There is no doubt that this is a SCAM operation. How do you stop them from doing this to others?
