I needed to have three appliances repaired in my home. I found Smartway Appliance on the web. According to the website this company had a 5 star rating. They indicated that they had both Houston and Dallas locations. I scheduled them to come out in Feb 2007. They showed up within a few days and "diagnosed" the problems and presented me with a service order and bill for $726.39. When I tried to pay with a credit card, the "Service Technician" said that his credit card machine was not working. That should have been my first clue. So I wrote him a check, which by the way was promptly cashed. I have called, emailed, filed a BBB report and filed a small claims suit. I won't bore anyone with all the details and frustration I have had with this company but it sounds identical to experiences I read by other consumers. I spoke with Doug on several occasions with false promises to return and repair the appliances. To date, 1/3/08 nothing has been repaired and all communication from Smartway Appliance has been shut down. In fact, the website is no longer active and the phone number for Smartway Appliance has been disconnected. This is more than a SCAM...this is criminal activity, which by the way is far worse than a small claims case. The individuals running this criminal activity will continue to operate. They won't operate under Smartway Appliance again but rest assured they will continue to steal homeowners money one "Service Call" at a time! HOW CAN THEY BE STOPPED!?
