Sleepys Complaint

Sleepys sagging sack leaves Grandma with an aching back - mattress

- West Hartford store
My 85 year old mother needed a new mattress as she felt that her mattress was not giving her the support she needed. We went to Sleepy's (the mattress professionals???) She laid on two or three mattresses and chose a Kingsdown which the salesman told us was out of North Carolina and that it was a company that each of the employees were part owners. He said they took pride in their company.
The single mattress cost my mother $469. She only got the mattress as her boxspring was fine and the salesman said that would be fine. We picked the mattress up a week later with our own vehicle as it costs $85. for delivery.

The first couple of weeks, mom thought the mattress was ok, but then she noticed a "dent" in the mattress. An occupational therapist who was helping her, as she had a broken wrist, confirmed that there was a dent in the bed. Mom called Sleepys and they told her they would get back to her within 7 days. I took her to the store 5 days later and they said, "we said 7 days". They also said because it was past 21 days (less than 30) that they would not just replace it. They said there would be a $229. charge for restocking if it qualified for a replacement. They sent a woman out with a measuring device and she measured the hole in the mattress and said she would get back to her within a week. She called a week later and said that the dent was less than one and one half inches deep so she said mom should call back in 60 days. Is that not terrible?? What is she supposed to do in the mean time?? What does calling them back in 60 days do?? You got me.

In the mean time she is sleeping on this mattress which is now causing her back to ache every day. It is absolutely ridiculous that these mattress companies can rip off people like this and that there is no recourse. Obviously the mattress is faulty and yet the store will not send it back to the manufacturer. I think it is absurd that someone has to go through hoops to resolve such an issue.

All she wants is her money back, but Sleepys said that there are no refunds. At first, all she wanted was the mattress replaced, but after dealing with Sleepys she wants nothing to do with them.

I would warn anyone considering Sleepys as their mattress professional to think again. They have done nothing but give my mom the run around. They do not back up their products and their service is horrendous.

I have notified the better business bureau and have a good mind to notify the attorney general of the state because people should not have to spend an inordinate amount of money for a warranty. They should be protected with a longer warranty period than 21 days.

I hope maybe you can help with this issue and warn viewers to avoid sleepys when buying a mattress. The problem is that they have such a monopoly on mattresses. They recently took over Better Bedding which I have had positive dealings with in the past.

Thank you for your time in reviewing this complaint.
