My Grandchild came to my house today, he came to get some medicine because he was sick to his stomach and had a sore throat. He told me he was on his way to his second job at Radio Shack, his first job was at Port a sub's, where he makes sandwiches. I asked him why he was working when he was sick, he said, because neither place would let him off unless he could find someone to take his shift, otherwise he would be fired. He does not have health insurance so he cannot afford to go to the doctor. They told him if he did not show up he better have a note from a doctor. I have to tell you as and elderly person with cronic health problems, I resent employer's doing this to the public, and to find out that the labor department agrees with these employers is outragious. What is wrong with these people, do they not know that people like myself with diabete's, Copd and liver problems as well has heart problems, could die if they were to get sick from one of these contagious people. So their making a dollar is worth our lives. This is just a crime to have this happen in America. You would expect this in a poor country, where health takes a back seat. It is not like my grandson has ever called in sick. This is not the first time I have seen him go to work sick. Something should be done about this to protect the public from employer's like port a sub's and Radio Shack. If you choose to mention this on TV or Radio, I beg you to ask employee's to call you with their storie's about their employer's. Maybe if their names are mentioned on live TV, they will decide to do the right thing and keep their sick employee's at home where they belong, not spreading their virus among the unaware shoppper's or the innocent familie's who just want to eat out rather than cook tonight.
