Sears Appliance Complaint

Another Rebate gone wrong story... Sears Appliance

- Sears WolfChase Mall Memphis Tn
Purchased Appliances on May 13, 2007 during the big nation wide promotion for “Buy Three Appliances get 20% off”
Submitted Rebate form for $582.97 and verified receipt on line, official receive date was May 22, 2007.

Late June I notice the amount was incorrect, off by 199.99. It states on the website the following:

"Final rebate check amount will be displayed after all Mail-In Rebate requirements have been validated".

So I was patient and waited until it showed the status as “mailed” before placing the first call (of what will turn out to be many calls) to the Sears rebate center. They confirmed it was entered incorrectly and promptly submitted the request for an additional check for $199.99.

The first check for 382.98 was mailed (according to the website) July 5.Toward the end of July, I contacted the rebate center to inquire about my check they apologized but said it would be 30 day before they could resubmit.
August 5th fell on a Sunday so I called on Monday August 6. The original check was canceled and a new one submitted.

By then the second check for 199.99 which remember was submitted because the total amount was incorrect originally (at this point I must question if this was a mistake) showed that it was mailed on July 24.

Well…today is August 24 and guess what….No freakin check.
Now this makes TWO checks that have exceeded the mail date by 30 days.

I call the rebate center and explain that this process is not working and I want to exercise plan “B”. Apparen'tly there is no plan B because all he offered was that we try to send it to a different address. B.S. I said been there, done that and obviously the system is flawed.

So I hung up and called the Sales man which transferred me to the Store/Department manager. Her solution after calling the Rebate center was that I should give them one more chance, cancel this check and wait another 30-day. Not the appropriate response in my opinion after all they were given two opportunities to deliver using there procedure and it has produced NOTHING. I hung up and call the Sears customer service line to lodge a formal complaint.

I would be willing to bet that come September 9 the original submission that is going on the second opportunity for $382.98 will still not be delivered.

What a way to treat your customers! All mail in rebates should be eliminated, thanks a lot “Best Buy” for starting this racket.

Thank You ,

A former Sears customer that’s having “The Good Life” rug pulled out from under me.

We just had a similar thing happen during the March 2008 large appliance 20% off sell. We were suppose to receive a rebate for $1085 but the online validation says it is $1005. They apparently are not issuing a 20% rebate for $400 of cash we used. The total exceeded the credit card by this much.

I believe as others the rebate company is intentionally doing this. There are too many mistakes on the internet. Probably the only way to stop this is with attorney general intervention and class action lawsuit. This is sad. Sears was a great company. But now they cheat people or allow their rebate company to do this.

Possibly this is also a criminal matter if being done intentionally.
