Sears Complaint

Dishwasher fiasco - Dishwasher Installation

- 2707 Perry Lane Alvin, TX 77511
I purchased a Dishwasher from Sears @ 10000 Emmett F Lowry # 02197, Mall of the Mainland, Texas City, TX 77591-2127, on August 14,2007. A few days after the installation we noticed some dampness on the front porch that backs up to our kitchen. Then, a few days later we began smelling a very unpleasant odor coming from the wet porch. Also, by this time our complete kitchen floor was seeping water from the bottom to the surface and everything was wet. I called a local Plumbing company and they responded immediately. They checked everything out and said my problem came from the new dishwasher leaking from underneath from a loose or cross threaded fitting. They fixed the problem and now all is dry. The only problem now is that Sears has not paid me for the floor replacement.

I spoke to their sub-contractor and they have given me the run around since September of 2007. I have spoken to various persons a total of some 15 times and have yet to get my problem resolved. Finally, the sub offered me $2,500.00 to do with what I wanted. He asked if I was going to fix the floor and before I could answer him he told me he didn't care what I did with the money. Obviously, I believe he was trying to pay to just settle this problem and did not really care about the cost that it takes to replace the wood laminant floor. I submitted an estimate from a local company that has been in business for some 30 years here in Alvin and the total bid came to $7,000.00. I am now in the process of getting another bid.

So as you can see I was upset and made him very well aware of my displeasure. Not only have I been waiting for over 4 months, but they are not even willing to pay for the replacement of the floor that they caused to be damaged. I have been a Sears customer for more than 25 years and I have never had so many problems due to their sub-contractor's intransigent behavior. The sub was very rude and finally stated that he did not even know why he had called me. I would appreciate anything you can do for me because my patience has run out.

Thank you very much.

DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING BY SEARS!!!!!

Wow, I am in the same prediciment with Sears. Same thing...their contractor installed the dishwasher and didn't use thread sealant and the dishwasher leaked for two years. Only I didn't know it was a leak (that's why I was more irritated with the situation than alarmed. I kept pushing the drain button because the water would well up in the basin. I had inept Sears tech come out to address the problem several times, and they improoperly diagnosed the problem every time.

When my husband and I moved to West Virginia, that's when the real fun began. I came back to the house two months later to show the home to prospective renters. The dishwasher leaked all over our kitchen and dining room floors. The cabinets, baseboards, and several walls were destroyed. Estimated damage? $5200. I had to postpone my renters getting in (thank God they still wanted the house!) The rest is a circus of a story with Sears that includes a Sears tech, the first person to document the incident, taking an antagonistic and rude attitude with me stating "A dishwasher can't do this type of damage. Sears is not liable for this. You will have to call your homeowners insurance." She said this twice to me. I filed a complaint against her and nothing was ever done. In fact, they sent her to my house again! I told her to "Get the hell away from my house!" and promptly called her dispatcher to send someone else.

Now, are you ready for this? I've provided the receipt for the dishwasher to Sears' insurance company, Sedgewick, as well as the credit card statement that shows the purchase including installation. But somehow Sears has lost my records in their system of me purchasing installation, and because their system is deficient, I am not getting my money. Sedgewick offered half to me as "customer courtesy."

I've been working with a case manager at Sears. He told me verbatim, "If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, and quacks like a duck," referring to the fact that all the proof I've given them indicate that I did indeed make the purchase and include installation.

However, after he stated my case to his fellow executives in a board meeting yesterday, you know what they want to give me? NOTHING!!!! I had to take $2700 out of my 4-year-old's account to subsidize the cost for repairs. Those fat-cat executives DO NOT CARE! We had to pay for all those repairs just so we could rent the house. We were moving to West Virginia because my husband had been out of a job for a year due to the recession. We scraped that money together.

I can honestly say I immensely DESPISE Sears for turning their backs on us. I would say hate, but I try not to hate anybody or anything. The service I got during this time of crisis was horrible at best. I hope nobody ever has to go through this.

As for the person that complained about Sears in the prior letter. Sue the bas$@(0@$!!! If you can't hire a lawyer, take them to small claims court yourself. What a shame to have those beautiful floors ruined.

Then write to every publication you know. Ask your friends and family for contact in the media. Call Clark Howard a radio consumer advocate. Stick it back to Sears!!!!
