I purchased a dishwasher with installation from my local Sears store. The dishwasher was delivered and installed in December. The dishwasher leaked and flooded my laundry room regularly (22 feet away) by running the length of the breakfast bar and under a wall. It wasn't until late August that it was discovered that it was the dishwasher, not the clothes washer that was causing the flooding. When Sears came to fix it they took pictures and admitted it was a bad installation. Their insurance company then informed me it was the installer's insurance company that was liable for the damage (black mold behind the dishwasher and cabinets plus any damages behind the cabinets not visible). I was not aware that the installers were independent contractors. I never received the information from Sears' insurance company so I had to spend 2 hours on the phone with Sears to get the correct department. They did manage to contact the installer. The installer's insurance company sent an adjuster out last week and they denied the claim because he is not covered for "fungus and bacteria". They told me that Sears is liable. Sears' insurance company states the installer's insurance company is responsible. In the mean time, I have been lving with this health hazard for quite a while. The dishwasher was fixed on September 8 and it is now November 16 and still no resolution.
I find it hard to believe that the purchase of the appliance and installation is such a seamless transaction. But, if there is a problem, the seams fall appart and the consumer is the only one that gets hurt.
To add to the problem, the customer service people that I have spoken to are incredibly rude and the person that is supposed to be taking care of my case on behalf of Sears never returns phone calls.
