PMI Movers (Progressive Movers INC) Complaint

Scam Artists of the century!!! how does PMI movers live w/themselves - moving company

- Paterson, NJ
I got a quote online from PMI the email says 3 guys for 5 hours $70/hr. I called to confirm and make sure that was the final estimate..no hidden charges. the guy Greg, assured me and was nothing but nice and sold me that these guys moved fast and were trained. they arrived 30 min late and had me sign some papers that relinquished them from damages and that I also signed a sheet with a list of items and prices. I was not interested in buying any of those items, and I didn't check off any boxes, so I assumed they wouldn't be using those products. they took numerous smoke and cell phone breaks. they kept using so much tape to wrap things it was ridiculous and I even said to them to stop going crazy with the tape (and I had no idea I was being charged for it and I still asked them to stop going nuts w/tape). Once we finally got to destination, they sat in truck for 20 min working on the release papers. I went out 2 times to ask what was going on. the guy finally came out and quoted me $1740.00!!! hand written on a scrap of paper. I couldn't believe my eyes. I said I never asked for or ordered any of these materials. they said its policy that everything has to be properly packaged for them to move it. examples of their outragous charges:they charged me $250 for a "xl crate" when I asked what was in the crate he replied "its a piece of cardboard that goes around the TV." they charged me for 9 rolls of tape and for other sized "crates" aka pieces of cardboard. I have a one yr old and another baby on the way and could not believe they had no probs with upsetting me so badly. they said they were just gunna take my stuff if I didn't pay. I pleaded with them for 2 hours. I called the manager and this time got a guy named Sam who was rude and had an excuse for everything. it was all lies. after 2 hours of pleading and bargaining they took all that I had in my bank account and $500 I had in cash. they settled for $800 to just unload my stuff in the garage. I now have to find someone to help me move it all upstairs. I did not have any friends or family to help me with this move, and I thought $350 seemed reasonable, I am not a wealthy person by any means, but I had no choice, but to hire movers. I work hard for my money and to have it stolen in this way just kills me. after this happened I googled the business and found sooo many complaints almost identical to mine! they have an F with the BBB. I do not understand how they get away with this and still have a license. I still have the email confirmation that gives no indication they would be charging for every step in the house, the driving time (which is the commut to the pickup spot until they get back to their office in paterson, etc, etc, etc. how can consumer affairs and BBB let these horrible people keep doing this to more and more people? please help us get justice and expose theses people

Quoted 3 men for 5 hours = $350.00
During the estimate I was given a sheet of what to pre-purchase, things like tape and boxes.

I went to home depot the day of the move bought boxes and the movers used it all up. Phil even told me that he will use a few items for free like tape and shrink wrap that I forgot to buy.

Final bill came out to be $420 I tipped the guys $25.00 each.
I wasn't aware of the travel time, but then they showed it to me in the quote and estimate. Oh well, service was done exceptionally.

This was my experience with them and I hope this helps anyone when selecting this company to perform a job. IF I had read this before hand I would have probably avoided them all together.

Good luck

Keep away from PMI movers if you have any sense. They quoted me $550 for a move and their final bill was over $2500! The cardboard box used to package the TV cost almost as much as a new TV. Greg and Sam are just scam artists. Ask them to tell you the charge for each flight of steps and for each 'long' walk. The lovers were lousy and just wasted a lot of time. Find somebody else who is honest, these guys are crooks.

The same thing happened to me. I was quoted $210 for 2 guys for 3 hours. They assured me I would not be charged xtra for an upstairs move. I got 3 guys, cell phone breaks carrying 1 box at a time. When they got to my new apt. they gave me a bill for $1823!!! Xtra charges-walking fees adding to $900, shrink wrap which took forever $250. After I said I would contact my lawyer, the proce dropped to $500 cash and they left the furniture outside. Plus some things were damaged!
