Scam ad on Craigslist for Rent Or Rent to Own or Lease to Buy

- Elk Grove, CA
This happened on 10/14/09

I’m currently looking for new rental to move into in Elk Grove, CA (single mom) and I noticed an ad on craigslist that mentioned a rent to own home that I loved for low credit/bad credit and other stuff (The craigslist ad is deleted now). So, I called the number posted and spoke with Mitchell (male) and he told me what he can get me into a house with no deposit and saves me money. The owner requires that we purchase rental insurance and make 2 time the rent. These are desperate home owners that want to save their homes and need renters or rent to own options ASAP.

The house I seen on craigslist was super nice and I was very interested in seeing it (Elk Grove, CA) and he said I can set up with the owner for me to see it. But I would need for you to pay a one-time fee of 149.90 to become a member of their program. I was nervous about paying anything but he talked me into it since I was desperate to move and wanted to see this house. He said we are not out to ripe anyone off we are a real company and located in Long Beach, CA.

So, after I paid the $149.90, then he said I will receive a send of home in my area I want (Elk Grove) along with the address so I can drive by and see if I like the location (with in 24 hours). The IT person was at there location fixing a systems problems so, I couldn’t review the homes on there website.

He referred me to their Website: http://1stAmericanresearch.com/

So, I received a receipt via email from $149.90 but still no list of homes.

I called the next day and left a message no response back. I called again the following evening and he said oh yes, sorry we are having IT issues and I will make sure you have your list or you will get your money back tomorrow morning. I did get this list and then another email giving me instructions how to contact these home owners.

I called back to 1st American Research and stated that this is not what I was told in the beginning and I want my money back. Still not call back.. Finally I called again and Mitchell said he would have a research specialist call me back. Still no call! Called again and said is this Mitchell and he said no (liar) and said that I need to do this process and it will happen. Same old shit.

They are posting Real Estate ads on the web with their telephone number as

1.619.819.5179 and 1.714.369.8941

How can I get my money back! I’m a single parent here. I got so sucked into this scam.

Please let me know what to do. My email address is Cynsanchezm@hotmail.com

This woman was informed that because of the homeowners current financial situation we could not give the properties current adress until she had followed the steps correctly.

She had continued to contact us and leave slanderous emails and also vicious voicemails so we did not let her tie up our lines. She was contacted back by our processing department with the instructions to recieve her refund. All she had to do was send a single email after the 60 day program was finished and her money for processing would be returned.

In no way was this woman lied to or misled, she was simply hard to deal with. If you would like us to prove this process is NOT a scam and you are interested in properties that DO have 2/3 of the move in fee waived and are all amazing homes please contact me personally at (818) 495-3044 for any more information.

I am having difficulty getting my money back as well. I have the documentation with dates to support my demand for refund. If I do not receive it I will be reporting to the BBB as well as the State Attorney of CA to report their practices.

I had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me in Jacksonville FL, "Michael" if you are worried about your "companies" repuation you would have refunded her money as any good company would. Just as in my situation, Mitchell lied to me, telling me I would be renting the home I wanted plus getting an addtional list, then instead, I was given a sample letter to send out to all the homeowners to try to negotiate renting. Basically, I was trying to rent a home-straigt forward, what I got was a "forclosure" list, which wasn't even real, and I got it after several emails, probaby the same "IT" problem, I never could get anyone to return my calls. It is really rude to "Michael" to call one of your paying customers a "women" instead of her name. And "David French" give me a break, you know you don't even exist except in the fradulent world of "1st American Research" HUN... and now www.1stamericanresearch" has not shockingly disappeared. "Michael", I did ask for a refund, and did not scary VM as you implied this "woman" did, so what's the excuse now??

Oh, and let me add that also their email no longer works! So shocking!
