Sadly, corruption, graft and fraud runs deep at Fizzou; at least to the level of Associate Vice Chancellor. This demonstrates a severe lack of integrity at the institutional level. A root cause is the belief by employees that relationships are more important than values. This has lead to an almost mafia like organization where employees take care of each other, often lying and going to great lengths to stop or undermine donor, student and investigative inquiries and complaints in order to retain personal benefits from a relationship with a corrupt employee.
The corruption at Fizzou has impact beyond the campus, undermining our society over time as well as corrupting our youth. Somehow, with its’ own journalism school, Fizzou has figured out how to control the press, a tactic once used only by the likes of the Nazis or the Soviet Union. One staff member was heard to state that “the holocaust never happened”. Another engaged in anti-Semitic hate speech and doesn’t think anything is wrong with this. Ticket office personnel use their position to gain personnel income through the scalping of tickets, while refusing to respond to the requests of academic donors. What has happened to the state of education in America? Are there no investigative journalists that will route out this corruption and expose it? Or will some mindless robot just kill this story?
Alumni Association leadership has forgotten that they are supposed to be an organization focused primarily on the betterment of education and have instead been undermined by the personnel desires of school appointed staff who use their position for personnel benefit while undermining or ignoring valid alumni member and leadership concerns. When complaints are attempted to be raised by members, they are suppressed and if the person bringing up a problem doesn’t drop it, personal character attacks have ensued to denigrate and undermine the validity of the complaint.
Many chapter members have no idea who their representative on the governing board is, let alone having ever met or talked to them. Staff rigidly control nominations to the governing board so as to effectively control the board for their own purposes.
In the athletic ticket sales office. Fans and donors are not responded to in a timely manner. Alum who live out of state are treated as second-class or worse, even if the reason for being out of state is because of federal military service or job necessity.
Validly elected or appointed officers of the alumni association are not treated as valid representatives of the association (showing that alumni association staff are not opening doors of alumni empowerment on campus, despite staff repeatedly boasting of doing this over many years of volunteer training sessions). Ticket staff apparently do not understand that mistreating out of state alum means less support for bowl games as out-of –state alum are a key source of potential bowl ticket sales. Further, the ticket office uses deceptive and misleading advertising, often adding fees which effectively double the advertised price of the ticket. Again, this does not lend itself to building fan support in lean years.
Finally, campus personnel seem to think they are members of a private commercial corporation, rather than officials at a publicly funded educational institution with responsibilities to state and federal taxpayers as well as a responsibility to uphold the principles of freedom of speech, academic non-attribution and others. Thomas Jefferson, whose original tomb stone rests on the quad would be shocked and appalled at the actions of University employees and their “do as I say, not as I do behavior and attitudes”.
