I'm a hardworking wife & mom, struggling in this recession like everyone else--who's simply trying to get Handy Lube to own up and replace the engine they killed during a botched oil change. Perhaps some media coverage can help persuade them to do the right thing--here's my story:
On 11/5, I took my Toyota Corolla to Handy Lube in Stamford, CT for a routine oil change. About a week & a half later on Tues. 11/17, I was driving along the highway when smoke started rising from under the hood whenever the car slowed down--accompanied with the smell of burning oil and a knocking sound from the engine. I was just able to get it to my mechanic before the car stopped running altogether. He checked it & informed me that my engine was irreparably shot--due to someone improperly replacing the oil cap, causing all the oil to spill out and ruin the engine (from lack of oil). I attempted to return to Handy Lube & nicely speak to the owner and see if they could resolve/remiburse me themselves--but got rudely brushed off by him, flippantly telling me that it wasn’t their problem and walking off.
Engine repair/replacement costs at least $2500—and I as I believe Handy Lube is responsible for improperly replacing the oil cap and ruining my engine, they should compensate me for the repair costs. I have receipts from Handy Lube, along with a statement and estimate from my mechanic, if needed. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
