Roto Rooter Complaint

$12,500 to replace a residential sewer drain line ?! - Plumbing

- Nashville, TN
The sewer line at hour home would back up when washing clothes so we called Roto Rooter to come take a look.
They said we have roots in our sewer line not reachable with their tool and would need to dig up the line near the street. $5,500

They dug up the line in our front yard and found that the roots were also going into the city connector line under the street. Roto Rooter said the city or county transferred the repair responsibility to the property owners a few years ago and they need to dig up the street.

Now it will be an additional "$6,000 plus parts"

The line is installed but the dirt has settled leaving a cavity under our carport and the access connector is standing about 15" out of the ground in our front yard.
They say the street can not be finished till Spring and sent me a final bill of $6,800.

I am not sure the price is reasonable and customary. I paid the initial $5500 so they would continue the work.
Not sure there is anything you can do with this but I thought it would make a good story if you can.
