Ripped off by restocking fee - HP laptop computer

- Jackson MI
In June 2010 we purchased an HP laptop computer. The grand total was $821.16. This included some software that the salespeople just inserted into the laptop without us asking for it.

When we got it home we could not connect it in any way.
We were trying to connect it to MSN. MSN could not get it connected. It was takien back to the store where the "geeks" tried to connect and couldn't. So we tried again at home. Nothing.

We are not new to computers; successfully hooked up a laptop years ago and thenn a desktop.

Ended up returning the HP and paying $176 restock fee even though the laptop was obviously defective.

Until now we have been afraid to buy any computer. We now have another laptop, purchased at a different store, and got it connected with no problems.

We have never experienced anything like this before. How could we know the HP computer was defective without opening the box? It was not used in anyway. How could it have been used it it could not be cvonnected? This was certainly not a case of just changing our minds.
