Shakopee Chevrolet Complaint

Ripped off by Auto Dealership!

- Shakopee MN

Annie Senske and Anthony Barth bought a 2001 Ford Expidition, paying $8500 and two days later the headgasket went out.

Shakopee Chevrolet Inc.
1206 1st Ave E,
Shakopee, MN 55379
Sales: (866) 492-4486
Service: (866) 475-3056
Two days after getting it home noticed oil leaking so took it to Honest-1 in Eagan and found out that the Head Gasket needs to be replaced. It will cost $2806.98 to fix.
They contacted the salesman, Matt Pagelkoph, who sold the vehicle to them to see if he would fix it, or at least work with them on working together to come up with a solution to fix the vehicle. The salesman, Matt Pagelkopf, (said you bought as is there is no warranty and I didn’t hold a gun to your head when you bought it!). Wouldn't even consider working with them on it at all!! Matt’s solution to the problem was he could refer them to his good friend that was a good mechanic. (A mechanic that did not work for Shakopee Chevrolet).
Vehicle has over 75000 miles, so lemon law won't cover this. But you still would think that a Dealership, or anyone for that fact, would at least work with you on fixing the expensive problem. But the problem was, we all believe, is that they knew about the head gasket being bad from the beginning!
The Dealership was rude! Said they sold as is so stuck with it and they won't do anything to fix it. Matt said “he didn't hold a gun to their head” when they purchased it!!! (Those were his exact words). When they bought it he told them it was a good running vehicle with no problems. (He said they go through the entire vehicle before they put them out on the lot for sale). He said that the price was good only for today; Matt said he was going on vacation and didn't want to split commission with another salesman so giving a deal.
Anthony wrote a check, but wasn't sure the loan would go through, Matt said that was ok, just let him know when the money was in Anthony's checking and he would then cash the check, he ask Anthony to write before he was even sure of the loan being approved through Anthony’s bank. Anthony told the salesman that the loan was not yet approved for sure, they knew the banker was working with them on a loan, but money wasn't leant at that point, Matt was ok with that and told them they could take the vehicle and just give him a call when the loan was approved and in Anthony’s checking account..
Three days later Anthony and his Step-dad, Went to sales manager, Tom Frazier and he was even ruder! Said sold as is and these vehicles are known for head gaskets to go out!. They told him found another ford expedition a year newer, 300000 less miles and a warranty!! He told them that it was illegal for this other place to warranty this vehicle, then proceeded to tell them that they should have gone there and bought that vehicle instead then! He also said that they do not go over vehicles when they come in, just change the oil and put on lot as long as they run. (If they changed the oil they would have noticed the leak and had to know about the blown head gasket)! But they never told them that when they bought it, never even mentioned it, in fact told them there was nothing wrong and the vehicle was in excellent running condition, as it had been all gone through. (According to Matt, the salesman that sold them the vehicle, but the sales manager, Tom, told them they don't go through all vehicles and just do an oil changes as long as they run and then put them on the lot for sale.
Anthony told them he was going to report them to the BBB and the sales managers respond was "One bad review or one dissatisfied customer isn't going to hurt our business". So Anthony went to the BBB and filed a complaint. The BBB contacted Anthony and told him that there was no vehicle sold to the name of Anthony Barth at Shakopee Chevrolet, so there was nothing they could do. The vehicle was sold in Annie name, but the check that paid for it came from Anthony. They had no problem taking his check but in return said no vehicle was sold to him!!!

We did some checking and found out we were not the only customers that were ripped off and lied to, here is another dissatisfied customer who wanted us to include his experience as well. His name is Kevin Turzinski and this is what he had to say: Completely dissatisfied customer...owner and sales manager not willing to work with us in any way. Avoid at all costs! We were completely misled by their rookie sales representative He told us we were looking at an Acadia with AWD and we even asked him numerous questions about the functioning of the AWD which he answered as it had it. We didn't find out... it didn't have it until one of our bad snowstorms this winter. When we confronted them about it they wanted nothing to do with us. We wanted to be fair and simply asked them to discuss options with us and they wanted nothing to do with it. Owner called us liars to our faces. It was unbelievable.

Annie Senske is the owner of the vehicle, but Anthony Barth financed the loan for her. Anthony Barth did most the dealings with this company so he would be able to answer any questions you may have a little better.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our complaint. We realize that we probably will not get any help with our situation any longer from this dealership, but we want to warn others of how they mislead people and they lie.
Also, Anthony attempted to contact the Owner George McGuire several times and he never responded to any of the calls. I believe there were 8 calls made to him.

What the Explorer customer forgot to tell everyone is that they filed a complaint with the BBB and the BBB found their complaint baseless...along with being filed under a name of a person who didn't purchase the vehicle. I'm sure, they “just forgot” to mention in this complaint the Explorer has 136,000 miles and is almost a decade old...Ford only warranties the truck for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Any good Mechanic could fix the problem for a 1000.00...but they got a phony bill for almost 3,000.00 from "Honest 1". Seams like the complaint should be for Honest 1, attempting to charge 3 times more than what it should cost!

The people where rude the whole time at the store...they even went into an office where a customer was doing business...demanding to be reimbursed for a vehicle they bought "As Is" 2 weeks earlier...and if not, they would use the internet as an attempt to extort the business!

In our looking into the issue they stated “the leak showed up after the week of below zero weather experienced in February”. FYI extremely cold weather and age can cause Head Gasket failure in any vehicle...let alone one with 136,000 miles and almost a Decade old!

The woman submitting the story as though shes a reporter...in fact she has never been in the dealership...everything she says is, un-investigated hearsay!

The Acadia Customers said they were told the vehicle was All Wheel Drive, however when investigating the facts, the truth comes out.

1. The vehicle was advertised as Front Wheel Drive, this is the same Ad the customer responded to and used to purchase the vehicle.

2. The customer even told us when we were looking into the facts that...they paid no attention to the Front Wheel Drive Ad description, because they were looking for a vehicle miss-advertised so they could take advantage of a dealership.

3. The customer told and showed us, that they used some sort of Vin# service through Google which showed them the vehicle was All Wheel Drive. This was not part of Shakopee Chevrolet's service or anything that Shakopee Chevrolet had control of. It was...as many things on the internet just bad information.

4. The customer attempted to have another dealer purchase the vehicle for them...from Shakopee Chevrolet on their behalf...so they spent limited time looking at the vehicles options. They based the All Wheel Drive requirement upon the miss-informed Google vehicle search system...saying the vehicle was All Wheel Drive.

5. The customer never discussed Acadia's drive system in the purchase of their truck, and after looking into the facts, Shakopee determined that they went off the information they obtained off Google.

6. It took the customer many months and several snow storms for them to come to the conclusion the vehicle was in fact “as advertised...Front Wheel Drive”
