I own a 2007 honda civic EX 4-dr. At 19,000 miles, the rear tires started vibrating and took my car to honda dealership (Holler Honda) in Orlando. They performed a regular servicing and to my shock advised me to replace all tires with tread-wears of 4/16, 5/16, and 6/16 on the tires. They gave me a quote for $500 and would replace the rear control arms (covered under my warranty). They did a tire rotation which transferred the vibrations to the front of the car. I brought the car back to dealership and the service department manager did a test drive and had the tires moved back again. I tried to argue about the problem and services and was told to contact the American Honda Motors regarding this issue.
All my efforts to convince Honda Motors even to pay partially for my tires did not succeed as they said they would cover the parts but not tires and suggested I contact the tire company for warranties. I searched the internet for some solutions and found pages full of complaints regarding this same issue. I took my car to two separate tire companies and found out there was no treadwear problem and my rear tires were cupped and could have resulted from the defective control arms and my front tires were still good for another 7000-8000 miles. Also for the tire company to pay for tires under warranty the treadwear has to be 2/32.
I got back to Honda Motors with the situation, but the best they offered me was to go ahead and complain to the National Highway Traffic Safety department. I did that right away and found some complaints there already about this problem.
Now, as I am getting ready to pay for new tires, I am just furious how the dealership lied to me, rotated my bad tires, and even after being aware of such a problem, they just shy away from their responsibility.
Talk about customer service from one of the most reliable auto makers, I now have an experience, rather nightmare to share.
