I purchased a new home in late 2005, the developer was to expand the square footage on my home, but he didn't. I didn't realize that the county tax office was over charging me in R. E. taxes for the wrong square footage because the taxes were being paid through the mortgage company. The correct square footage was never adjusted by the developer Rubino or the tax dept. I have called the county tax office since last year for a square footage - appraisal review, and they keep ignoring me. In February, I had an appraiser inspect the property. He said he couldn't make the adjustment, and that I should go to the county tax dept. He did agree with me that the square footage stated in my taxes was incorrect. Also my parents have the same home build next door and they are paying much less, even with the senior discount. They are paying $670.00, and I am paying $1800.00 for 1240 sq. ft. The county records state they are taxing me for 1640 sq. ft., and they won't come out for an inspection. I spoke with Allen, the dept. supervisor, he said, "they are two busy, and that their records are correct." I have been trying for over two years to solve this problem. This over-charge has been going on for close to five years, that's over $2,000 of over-paid taxes. I called congressman, Bill Bell, and he won't even return my calls. I have stopped by the county tax office numerous times, and they keep telling me, "they will call me for an appointment to measure my home", and two years later, I am still waiting. Please help me.
