City of Providence - Parking Dept. Complaint

Providence Parking Fines Worse Than Outlawed Credit Card Practices - Parking Fines

- Providence, RI
I received a parking ticket in the City of Providence and paid it within 30 days; which is typically considered "current" by any company I have ever done business with. And, with the new consumer laws protecting us from unethical and unreasonably large fees from credit card companies, one would expect that a payment over 30 days late would have a reasonable fee assessed that does not exceed the actual, original fee.

Well folks, it looks like the government did something to protect us against the exorbitant fees for credit card companies but continues even worse practices itself. Did you know that if you pay a Providence, RI parking ticket more than 14 days after it is issued, the fine DOUBLE!!!! And if payment is not received within 28 days it TRIPLES!!!!

So when do we get laws that require the government to abide by the same fair practices it has imposed upon businesses? Why was a $25 additional fee for my credit card payment being received more than 15 days after the due date considered unfair (with the due date being 30 days after the bill was printed - really meaning I was not charged that fee until 45 days after the notice was issued) but the City of Providence TRIPLING the FULL FINE only 28 days after delivery of the notice (placement of the ticket on my car) is considered acceptable?

I say, let's boycott the City of Providence until they revised their practices to be in-line with those the government imposes upon businesses!!! Maybe if Providence sees less visitors and a reduction in the money we spend in the city, maybe they will revise these unfair, unethical and "illegal to anyone else" practices and allow 30 days for payment and will charge more reasonable "late" fees.

BOYCOTT PROVIDENCE!!!
