Greetings. My brother has been in prison for several years now and has been working on a Patent with his time. I've been helping him with the paperwork for this Patent because he has limited resources available to him.
After working several months on his Patent, along with the application for it, he mailed the entire package to me recently so I could include the money order for the cost of the Patent addressed to the Commissioner for Patents in Virginia.
I took this package, which includes his prototype, a cell mate's art work design for the logo, all the applications and paperwork with inclosed money order, to the UPS store here in Maricopa to mail it out Express Mail on November the 4th. The only way they will accept the package in Virginia is by Express Mail.
The store manager, 'Tracy,' mailed it out in the wrong envelope and it ended up back in Marion Illinois at the prison marked "postage due" because it was mailed out incorrectly. It was returned to the prison facility because my brother's return address was on the package that I mailed for him - since he is the real sender and the Patent is supposed to be mailed to him there.
The prison facility did not accept delivery because they just do not accept packages of that nature. From there, it went to some unknown holding facility in Marion Illinois and has been there since November the 7th.
I've called Postal Consumer Affairs at 314-436-4280 and have spoken with a couple of people Nancy, and John who have no idea where the package is at but have emailed their holding station letting everyone know to keep an 'eye out' for it.
They told me it could be at the bottom of a pile somewhere, it could take days to find it and 'when we do we'll send it to your home address.' There is no guarantee that they will find it.
I also have to write moneygram.com to apply for a money order refund for the money order enclosed in the lost package. I've emailed the Post Master General, and I've gone down to the UPS office here that made the error in the first place twice. The manager 'Tracy' originally did the transaction. Today she refunded my money and said she will keep trying to find the package.
In that package is my brother's life long dream. I cannot comprehend the disregard for its importance that it would get lost so easily by the Post Office. I'm sick to my stomach over it because he's been working for months on it to get it just right. It was the one thing that was giving him hope at this time. It's been through the Patent Search and it is patentable. Now we don't know where his patent is or even if it's in one piece.
The facility in Marion Illinois is on lock down now because of fights that broke out in the 'yard' last week so they aren't allowing any emails in or out. I've let him know in the emails they are holding for him, but he won't be able to read them until they go off of lock down.
I just want the package returned in one piece, I'm just heart broken over it and sick. Is there anything else I can do to hasten its return?
Thank you.
