Today I along with I am sure hundreds and hundreds of disabled, poor and elderly received a letter from LCEC in which they said that because I was not consistently on time with my electric payments and because my electric had went up since moving into our home LCEC would require that I pay another $125.00 more in deposit on my account (along with the $325.00 I paid when I first got service). I called and sent an email to a Board member which was intercepted by the CEO Mr. Hamilton who then called me and asked me if I had any questions. I told Mr. Hamilton that his Companies Policy requiring those who are in need the most to pay more in deposits a year after they have had service without being in errs was tantamount to a violation of the Constitutions Equal Protectin and Mr. Hamilton said that if we did not use so much electricy then we would not have to pay more towards the deposit. I told Mr. Hamilton his policy targes the poor, elderly and disabled and he said that it did not and I said name one rich person who lives in a house like he that got a notice like this and he would not saying he would not know. Mr. Hamilton was self serving and spoke down to me like I was a child but the fact is these policies enacted by LCEC target the poor, disabled and elderly because those are the only people who have trouble paying their bill on time. Mr. Hamilton would disagree and state that he has worked for everything he has to which I told him that if fleecing poor people was honest work then yes he has managed to do that with bells on but if he was talking about honest work then he is a failure. The fact is LCEC knows that those in need have no choice but to come up with the extra money to pay these added deposits because they have no choice or there electric will get shut off. What they are doing is a disgrace and they are as guilty as if they were the banks that fleeced the poor. The poor are member of LCEC and they need to get together and s\top these criminals.
