PENNSVILLE TWP. — Three North Jersey men were arrested early this week on drug charges after a police search of a moving truck allegedly revealed illegal contraband, said police.

Patrick Hayes, 23, Thomas Pernetti, 22, and Robert Santos, 22, all of Saddle Brook, were arrested Tuesday and charged with various drug related charges, according to police.

Hayes

Hayes was officially charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to make unlawful disposition.

Santos’ charges included possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to make unlawful disposition.

Pernetti was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the arrests stems from a civil complaint against a New Jersey moving company called Progressive Movers Incorporated (PMI).

Santos

On Aug. 4, Pennsville Police were contacted by an elderly female who advised she was moving from Carneys Point to a location in Pennsville and hired PMI, which she located on the Internet.

Police said on Aug. 1, the victim was allegedly approached by PMI to sign a contract to move her items for $210.

On Aug. 4, the PMI movers showed up and loaded her belongings into a truck. When issued the bill, the victim was then told she owned $1,755, police said.

Police said the victim did not have enough money to pay the movers at which time the movers allegedly made it known that the elderly woman would not be getting her items back until she paid the bill in full.

Police said the woman was able to produce $700 and then $50 in quarters she used for laundry.

Pernetti

The mover allegedly decided this was enough money to release a recliner and a bed frame, but would not release any more until she paid the additional $1,000, police said.

After agreeing to pay the money at a later date, police then responded to the scene after the victim called for help.

The suspects were interviewed and further investigation led to a need for the K-9 unit from the Salem City police department to be called, said police.

The K-9 unit showed a positive reaction to the cab of the truck and police immediately issued a search warrant.

Police said they found marijuana and unidentified CDS in the truck.

The three men were arrested, charged and transported to the Salem County Correctional
Facility in Mannington Township.

Their bail was listed as follows: Hayes, $10,000, Santos, $2,500, and Pernetti, $550.

It was not known if the men remain in jail in default of bail.
